Policy and Advocacy
Media Training at the CARE National Conference
At the CARE National Conference in Washington, DC, many important workshops have been set up for participants to learn how to become better advocates for the world’s poorest people. Lately, I have realized how important it is to engage the media in the effort to raise people out of extreme poverty. I am always nervous about what to say when I approach the media – or even when the media approaches me. Thankfully, CARE has arranged a workshop for that. We learned how to tailor our messages to the media so that they are more likely to be picked up as stories. We were also given tips on what to do to ensure that our messages are delivered in the way that they were intended. The speakers at the workshop were dynamic and engaging. They were experts in their various fields of media and spoke honestly about the best techniques in working with media.
